The end of a year is inevitable, but at the end there is a new beginning. The beginning of a new year is celebrated by many people all around the world. Some may celebrate the coming of a new year with fireworks, foods, family, friends, lovers, spouses, children, confetti, alcoholic beverages, balloons, making resolutions, games or a combination of all of the above.
Most new year celebrations are started on December 31st of the calendar year and end on the first of January. However, in different locations of the world there may be a difference in dates such as the Chinese New Year, the beginning and end are different dates every year because the holiday is based on a lunar calendar, which is based on the movements of the moon.
In the United States, the new year is celebrated with the ball dropping in Times Square at the stroke of midnight in New York City, New York. People from all over the world watch the ball drop on their televisions or other online platforms. This new year tradition began in 1907 and started off with a ball made of iron and wood that weighed around 700 pounds.
Today the ball is a very bright and beautifully patterned ball that’s a bit larger weighing around 12,000 pounds and around 12 feet in diameter. Some other states and other countries have their own versions of this tradition, or they have their own traditions such as parades and festivals.
