Lucille Ball was born in 1911, and is one of the most popular American comedians of all time. She is best known for her TV series I Love Lucy (1962-1968) and ‘Here’s Lucy’ (1968-1973) with her on-screen and real-life husband, Desi Arnaz.

Early in her career, she was shy and had a rough time getting a start in her dream of acting. In New York in 1927 Lucille called herself Diane Belmont while she took modelling jobs for fashion designer Hattie Carnegie and Chesterfield Cigarettes. In the early 1930s she relocated to Hollywood to expand her search for acting jobs to build her acting career.

Lucille Ball starred in ‘Roman Scandals’ (1933), was an extra in ‘The Three Musketeers’, starred in ‘Stage Door’ (1937), and the movie ‘Dance, Girl, Dance’ (1940) where she was introduced to her husband and co-star Desi Arnaz. Lucille Ball starred in a total of 72 films in her career.

Ball and Arnaz put together the show ‘I love Lucy’ together and founded a production company called Desilu Productions. In 1960 the pair divorced, but she ended up buying Arnaz out of the company after she married Gary Morton. She sold the company in 1967 for a total of 17 million dollars. Lucille Ball died on April 26, 1989 during an open-heart surgery in Los Angeles.
