85 Inspirational Lao Tzu Quotes

Lao Tzu is known primarily as the founder of Taoism and the author of “Tao Te Ching,” or “The Way and its Power.” This text is sometimes referred to as “The Law of Virtue and its Way.” Heavily inspired by nature and somewhat mystical, Taoism focuses on developing individual character.

Lao Tzu lived in a time of extraordinary conflict, and hoped to convert leaders in order to bring peace to a warring China. He is said to have left China in frustration when he was 80. A border guard who knew of his teachings asked him to record these teachings before he left China. In response, Lao Tzu wrote the 5,000 characters we now know as “Tao Te Ching.”
