Being ungrateful by definition is not showing gratitude, being thankless, and being unappreciative. Someone who is ungrateful is usually characterized as being narcissistic. Narcissistic people automatically expect favors, gifts and to be admired by people so they feel they have no obligation to pay it forward. They have a strong sense of self-importance and are often arrogant, because of this mindset they cannot mentally connect with the person/people that gives them something to be thankful for.
Everybody has their moments of being ungrateful but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are ungrateful people, they could simply just not be mentally able to be grateful in some moments or they could just not be able to express how grateful they are. Those that are genuinely ungrateful almost all of the time are unfortunately ungrateful people.
It is unknown how a person becomes an ungrateful person. It could have something to do with how they were raised, something or multiple things that happened to them in the past or if it is just a part of their personality. While most people tend to not ask for help from others, an ungrateful person will constantly be asking for help or expecting help because they feel entitled to it even though they usually wouldn’t help another soul if there was nothing in it for them.
